OverDrive has partnered with Disney Digital Books to release a new service for library partners: Customers can now enjoy the world of Disney in a browser-based interactive online book, an OverDrive first. Channel partners can add Disney Digital Books to their catalogs using the same process in Content Reserve as other subscription services. Each title is then integrated into the library’s digital catalog side-by-side with other eBooks and digital content so users can discover the titles through normal browsing.
When a customer chooses one of these interactive online titles, the book will appear on the screen in a new browser window at the Disney Digital Book website after users are authenticated through OverDrive’s existing system. This means users only use their OverDrive-powered library card instead of creating a new user ID with the third party. This non-hosted content is “always available” for simultaneous use and can be re-opened during the library customers’ lending periods.
This new initiative expands OverDrive’s services to include support for third-party platforms, in addition to content traditionally supported through Content Reserve and other OverDrive platforms. These consist of many types of media: video, music and interactive books.
OverDrive serves more than 13,000 public, school and college libraries around the world, and offers this technology to publishers that have an existing subscription service or product platform.
