Today OverDrive and Amazon announced an agreement that will bring library eBook lending to Kindle customers in the United States later this year. This integration with library, school, and college eBook collections provides a huge benefit to authors and publishers who will have millions of additional readers using local libraries to discover eBook titles.

Here is just a brief overview of what you can expect when the Kindle Library Lending program launches:

The Kindle Library Lending program will support the existing business models that you have already set in OverDrive’s catalog.

The Kindle eBook titles borrowed from a library will carry the same rules and policies as all other eBooks.

As usual, users will still need a valid library card from a participating library, school, or college to check out an eBook for Kindle Lending.

We’re excited about this new opportunity. We believe that the massive increase in exposure will benefit you and your authors by creating a broader user base for library eBooks.  As the launch date draws closer, we look forward to providing you with more information on the Kindle Library Lending program.
