Team OverDrive just returned from ALA Midwinter in Boston. What a great city!
It was a pleasure, as always, to meet our library partners. I enjoyed hearing stories about downloading books from the library, answering questions, and also sharing news about what’s coming soon for the OverDrive service. Through my interactions, there are two words that stood out most: eBooks and video. Although we’ve always offered these formats, they are certainly gaining a lot of steam lately.
With confirmed compatibility of the Sony® ReaderTMand the Barnes & Noble nookTM, and hopefully many more eBook readers to follow, eBooks are growing in popularity and many libraries are quickly jumping on the bandwagon. OverDrive’s catalog of download videos recently exceeded 10,000 titles, ranging from feature films, documentaries, and instructional, to concert, comedy, and children’s. If your library is interested in adding eBooks or video to your download collection, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Karen Potash, collection development specialist here at OverDrive, also had the privilege of speaking at the ALCTS Public Library Technical Services Interest Group. Karen presented on topics such as budgeting for a digital collection, how to involve staff in the process, and cataloging digital content. Thanks to the new Interest Group for inviting us to participate!
Thank you to all of you who visited the OverDrive booth and attended our theater presentations (pictured above). We hope to see you at PLA (booth #2347) in March!
