886069_origThis Saturday, May 21, has officially been dubbed National Readathon Day. This holiday is dedicated to the joy of reading and giving, as readers everywhere join together in libraries, schools and on social media (#Readathon2016) to read and raise funds in support of literacy. This year, National Readathon Day is a collaboration between our friends at Penguin Random House and the American Library Association (ALA) as part of the ongoing Libraries Transform campaign.

In addition to raising awareness for literacy through the #Readathon2016 hashtag, readers can also donate funds that go towards the ALA’s Every Child Ready to Read initiative. Every program that supports the early literacy development of children from birth to age five in libraries across the nation. At the #Readathon website you can find more information on this great initiative as well as local reading parties in your area and fun images and videos to share on social media. We fully support spending most Saturdays lost in your favorite books but when you can do that AND help a good cause it’s a win-win!
