Have you typed “OverDrive” into Android™ Market search today? Notice anything new?

This morning, we went live with OverDrive® Media Console™ for Android v1.0, making our audiobook app for Android available in the Android Market for the first time. Now you and your library users can wirelessly download MP3 audiobooks from your library’s mobile optimized download website directly to your Android device. OverDrive’s audiobook app for Android has the same superior listening features as the desktop version OverDrive Media Console, including resume from furthest played point and custom bookmarking.

OverDrive Media Console for Windows® v3.2.0.4 is also out now. With this version, the Transfer Wizard now provides full support for transfer to Android devices. The latest version of OverDrive Media Console for Windows also displays a title’s description through the “Properties” screen and higher-quality cover images (if available).

Will Android users ever be able to read ebooks on their phones? The audiobooks are a great thing, but I typically want to *read* books on my phone. The ebook readers that open Mobi and PDF files won’t work with the downloaded books from my library, will they? There’s no code to register in them.

Hi Gardenwife, I think I just answered your question of Facebook, but wanted to update here to make sure too.

Right now there isn’t an option for reading eBooks from the library on your Android. As soon as we know anything, we’ll let everyone know on the blog. Keep checking back.

WMA support would be excellent! The selection of mp3 audiobooks is paltry compared to what’s available in WMA.
