Earlier this month, OverDrive launched the latest version of OverDrive Advantage. The program was introduced last year to allow libraries that are part of shared ‘Virtual Branch’ websites to create a custom Advantage collection of best-selling and new release titles within the shared collection. This Advantage collection, only visible and accessible to the Advantage library’s patrons, enables a consortium member library to reduce waiting lists on popular titles, add titles for their specific community, and provide continued access to the shared collection website.
The improvements with OverDrive Advantage v2.0 retain the program’s original benefits, while enhancing OverDrive Advantage for our library partners and their patrons. New features include:
Only patrons from your library can view titles in your Advantage collection. This new feature automatically enables access to both your library’s Advantage titles and the shared collection when a patron logs in using their library card.
Download Standing Order Plans
Now you can automatically add frontlist titles to your Advantage collection even before their release date when you sign up for an OverDrive Download Standing Order Plan. You can generate interest in upcoming releases and allow patrons to join a waiting list before the title is available for download. Choose from top publishers and enter a desired number of new release audiobooks and eBooks to be added to your digital collection.
Advantage libraries can also enable the Holds Manager feature, which handles your waiting lists for you, so the queue for titles never gets too long. All you do is set a holds ratio, maximum cost, or maximum number of titles, and a start date. Holds Manager will then automatically add additional copies of a waitlisted title at the appropriate time.
Any library that is a member of an OverDrive-powered shared collection can join OverDrive Advantage. The only requirement is the ability to authenticate library patrons as part of an individual library, separate from the consortium.
You can see OverDrive Advantage on these shared ‘Virtual Branch’ websites:
