OverDrive is excited to announce the pilot launch of the WIN Catalog. Library partners now live in pilot include Cuyahoga County Public Library (OH), Rochester Public Library (MN), New York Public LibraryBoston Public Library and Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, with additional libraries expected to follow.

As previously shared, the WIN Catalog is an integrated suite of new features designed with input from librarians and supporting publishers to create a win-win-win scenario for libraries, readers and publishers.

  • ‘Buy It Now’: Users can easily discover titles from your digital collection and instantly link to online booksellers offering the title for sale. A portion of each sale is credited back to the referring library as an affiliate fee in the form of OverDrive content credit. Participating booksellers include Indiebound, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, BooksonBoard.com and Powell’s. More than 75 US libraries currently offer this feature, and it’s also in pilot in the UK at Hampshire County Council.
  • Additional titles with option to ‘Recommend to Library’: When browsing or searching your digital collection, users can click to view ‘Additional titles.’ This will display full publisher catalogs from those participating in library lending, including midlist and backlist titles that your library may not have purchased yet.  There will be options for the user to ‘Buy It Now’ (as described above) or ‘Recommend to Library’ (patron driven acquisition). In Content Reserve, your library will be able to view a list of recommended titles, set up a Recommend to Library Manager Plan to create select lists based on recommendations, as well as establish policies for the amount and frequency of recommendations permitted by a patron.
  • Book & Author Impressions: In addition to adding hundreds of thousands of eBook and digital audiobook titles for discovery and sampling from your digital collection, the WIN Catalog will also provide a series of new book and author impressions as well as librarian recommendations that will offer options for users to directly connect with books and authors through book trailers, author fan pages and events and more.

Over the next few weeks, OverDrive will be monitoring the activity of the pilot libraries that offer the WIN Catalog. Following a successful pilot, we will communicate additional details on how your library can opt-in for the WIN Catalog.

While the initial phase will be for public libraries only, we are hopeful to expand to schools and colleges in the future.

Shannon Lichty is manager of library partner services for OverDrive.

Don’t know if you’ve noticed yet, but the Las Vegas link is bad.
