June has long been known as LGBT Pride Month, a celebration demonstrating how Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Americans have strengthened our country, by using their talent and creativity to help create awareness and goodwill. June was chosen to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, which occurred at the end of June in 1969. If you’re interested in learning about the events that sparked America’s Gay Rights movement, I highly suggest reading Stonewall by Ann Bausum or David Carter’s book on the riots with the same name.

Equality is something OverDrive strongly believes in not just during the month of June but all year long. To show our support and help raise awareness for the LGBT Pride cause, we’ve created a reading list of some of our favorite LGBT authors and books that readers of any background can enjoy. Regardless of your sexual orientation, cultural upbringing, belief system or gender identification we think you’ll find something to enjoy in this list. This collection includes bestsellers, recent releases, classics, graphic novels, young adult titles and more.

There are, of course, so many more wonderful LGBT books out in the literary world that aren’t in this list so please let us know some of your favorites in the comments section. If your library has a great collection of these titles, consider curating a list to feature on your OverDrive digital library not just during June but frequently throughout the year. If your library doesn’t currently have many titles that represent the reading preferences of your LGBT community, we’ve created some carts in Marketplace that you can purchase as well. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating not just the importance of the LGBT Pride movement but the expansion of diversity in literature both in general and in your digital collection. #LoveWins
